Pirate ship with full sails coloring page
Most ships in the golden age of piracy (1650-1730) weren't built as pirate vessels — they were captured merchant ships modified for speed and lighter armament. Pirates favored sloops and schooners with shallow drafts that could escape navy frigates by darting into coves. The black skull-and-crossbones flag, the Jolly Roger, was raised at close range as a psychological weapon: surrender now and live, fight and get no quarter.
