The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX (2005-2007) ran a 2.0-litre turbocharged 4G63 four-cylinder making around 286 horsepower in US trim, all-wheel drive, and an active centre differential developed straight from rally cars. Tommi Mäkinen won four consecutive World Rally Championship driver titles between 1996 and 1999 with the Evolution predecessors. The Evo IX became a fixture of street and tuner culture through Initial D and the Fast & Furious franchise.
