Halloween ghost

The see-through stage ghost was worked out by the engineer Henry Dircks in the 1850s and made practical for real theatres by John Henry Pepper, who demonstrated it in 1862. A hidden actor is reflected off a large sheet of angled glass, so the figure appears to walk through solid scenery. Pepper's ghost is still used in theatres and theme parks today.
