The Moon
The Moon orbits Earth at an average distance of 384,400 km and is slowly drifting away at 3.8 cm per year. Its surface is covered in craters from 4 billion years of asteroid impacts. The dark patches visible from Earth are called maria — ancient basaltic lava flows that filled massive impact basins. The largest is Oceanus Procellarum, spanning over 2,500 km. Only 12 people have walked on the lunar surface, all during NASA's Apollo program between 1969 and 1972. Coloring page of the Moon with craters and mare regions.
