Apollo Lunar Module
The Apollo Lunar Module, called Eagle for Apollo 11, carried Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin from lunar orbit to the surface of the Moon on July 20, 1969. The angular shape comes from layered metallic insulation wrapped around the panels — Kapton film and aluminized Mylar — used to reflect heat in the airless lunar environment. The lower descent stage stayed on the Moon as a launch platform, while the upper ascent stage lifted off again to rejoin Michael Collins in orbit.
