Steve swings a diamond pickaxe at a wall of diamond ore in this Minecraft mining scene. Diamonds spawn most often between Y=-58 and Y=-64 in newer versions of the game, deep below sea level near the bedrock layer. You need at least an iron pickaxe to mine diamond ore — anything weaker just shatters the block without a drop.
