Minecraft Nether Portal

A Nether Portal is built from a frame of obsidian and lit with flint and steel — the minimum 4×5 frame needs 10 obsidian blocks because the four corners can be any other block. Once active, a swirling purple gateway carries the player to The Nether, a hellish dimension where every block walked equals 8 blocks back in the Overworld. Linked portals at matching coordinates let players travel huge distances in seconds. Nether Portals were added in the 2010 Halloween Update and remain the only way to reach The Nether in Survival mode.
