The White House has been the residence and workplace of every U.S. president since John Adams moved in during November 1800. The mansion has 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, and 412 doors across six levels. British troops burned the original building during the War of 1812, and James Monroe became the first president to occupy the restored mansion in 1817.
