Golden Gate Bridge

The Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1937 connecting San Francisco to Marin County across the Golden Gate strait. At 2,737 meters total length, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world until 1964. Its two towers stand 227 meters above the water and the main span between them stretches 1,280 meters. The cables holding up the deck contain about 129,000 kilometers of steel wire. The signature International Orange color was chosen to make the bridge visible in San Francisco's heavy fog and complement its natural surroundings.
