Emu

The emu is one of the tallest living birds, standing up to 1.9 meters tall. Native to Australia, emus are flightless but can sprint at up to 50 km/h on their powerful legs. Their feathers have a unique double-shaft structure where two quills grow from a single point, giving them a shaggy, hair-like appearance. Emu fathers sit on the eggs for about 56 days without eating or drinking. The emu appears alongside the kangaroo on Australia's coat of arms, which was adopted in 1912.
