Capybara in a hot spring

Capybaras are the largest living rodents, native to South America and thoroughly at home in water. Japanese zoos have kept them in outdoor hot-spring baths since 1982, after keepers at Izu Shaboten Zoo noticed the animals settling into warm water left over from cleaning their enclosure. The soak became a winter tradition that other zoos copied. Coloring sheet of a capybara sitting up to its shoulders in a stone-ringed pool, eyes shut, steam curling above the water.
