Beaver

Beavers are the second-largest living rodents after capybaras. They build dams from logs, sticks, and mud that can stretch nearly 800 meters — the longest known beaver dam in Alberta, Canada is visible on satellite imagery. Their flat, scaly tails serve as rudders when swimming and as props when sitting upright to gnaw trees. A beaver's front teeth never stop growing, so constant gnawing on wood keeps them worn to the right length. The beaver is Canada's national animal and appears on the Canadian five-cent coin.
